A dismal start meant that boss Mikel Arteta’s head was well-and-truly on the chopping block as early as the first international break at the start of September.

So, what’s changed? Firstly, The Gunners have gone on an eight-game unbeaten run, winning six of those matches. A nice little 3-1 win over Spurs in the north London derby also helped the mood around the Emirates. Arteta’s Arsenal, no matter what you may think of them right now, have become far tougher to beat in recent weeks and that can only be a good thing.

With this upturn in form for Arsenal, which Gunners stars should you be getting excited about for the season ahead? Let’s take a look at the best Gunners in our ranks right now.

The Arsenal Players to Take Their Game to the Next Level

The best thing to do here is have a look at our top-performing Gunners in the Premier League so far. After three goals in his last five league games, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has burst into life since his return from injury. The 32-year-old Gabonese attacker missed the first outing of the season and didn’t start a match until Arsenal’s third game. He is already the club’s top scorer in the league with four goals. Aubameyang may not be the player he once was but he is certainly still capable of hitting a purple patch at some stage.

Next best so far is Bukayo Saka. Still only 20, a lot is expected of Arsenal’s England international. He has played in every game up to now. Saka has contributed one goal and two assists during this early period of the 2021/22 campaign.

Another young midfielder, Emile Smith Rowe, looks to have a hugely promising career ahead of him. He, along with Saka, is one of the most exciting talents to emerge in the Premier League in recent years.

Bernd Leno lost his place early in the season to Aaron Ramsdale. The former Bournemouth and Sheffield United goalkeeper has been very impressive since his promotion to the first team after his summer move from Bramall Lane. Leno was dropped after Arsenal’s third game, the 5-0 drubbing at Manchester City. Ramsdale came into the side then and had kept three clean sheets already.
