After one Arsenal loanee made L’Equipe’s Team of the Week last week, the other was branded a flop for this weekend’s performance.

Last week, we relayed L’Equipe’s inclusion of Matteo Guendouzi in their Team of the Week, following the midfielder’s strong display against Rennes. Unfortunately, this weekend’s defeat to Lens was significantly less impressive.

Whilst Guendouzi’s rating dropped from 7 to 4 this week, L’Equipe (via Sport Witness) were even harsher on William Saliba, giving him a 3 and including him in their section of ‘flops’ for the round of fixtures.

The French outlet put blame on Saliba for his part in the early penalty Marseille conceded, and suggest he didn’t improve much from there. They call it a “match to forget”.

This is very much contrary to the last few weeks of action. As mentioned, Guendouzi was in the Team of the Week just days earlier, but Saliba was also earning plenty of praise.

The Marseille boss called Saliba a ‘future great’ recently, and his statistics in possession remain outstanding. Perhaps the Arsenal pair just took their feet off the gas for a game.

Hopefully, the defeat will refocus them for their Europa League clash with Galatasaray on Thursday.
