Hector Bellerin provided the first assist of his loan spell at Real Betis on Sunday, setting up Nabil Fekir with committed work on the right.

Hector Bellerin came back into the Real Betis starting lineup on Sunday, after he watched on from the bench in the Europa League in midweek.

As we reported on Friday, Bellerin was simply being rested, particularly after his 90 minutes a few days earlier and the plan to start him against Espanyol on Sunday.

The rest seemed to pay dividends, as Bellerin was involved in Manuel Pellegrini’s side taking the lead just before half-time.

Bellerin ran in behind the Espanyol defence, sliding in to keep the ball in play and get it away from two defenders before cutting it back for Nabil Fekir to finish. Hopefully, the first assist of many for him in Spain.

Bellerin made two clearances, three interceptions, and three tackles on the defensive end, as well as completing all three of his attempted dribbles and creating two chances going forward.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to get his loan team the win on the day. Betis picked up a red card 12 minutes from the end of the 90, before conceding in injury time for 2-2.

But Bellerin did well on an individual basis, and that’s what will keep him in the team in the coming weeks.

The right-back also played well on his debut against Granada, creating a couple of chances, making three clearances and one tackle as Betis earned their first win of the season.

They’re unbeaten in the three games since the Arsenal loanee joined the club, and face Osasuna away next on Thursday, 23rd September at 18:30 BST.
