Martin Odegaard believes Arsenal will be challenging for the Premier League within a couple of years.

The thought of Arsenal winning anything right now is quite laughable, but we only have to look at how Liverpool fell out of Europe totally and used that time to reset, come back and do just that.

Still, Arsenal probably have a lot more ground to claw back than Liverpool did, but Odegaard’s comments give us a clear indication of what Mikel Arteta and Edu are telling players at the club.

“We want to get back to European football this season, that would be important for the players, for the club and for the fans,” he told Sky Sports.

“Then, hopefully with time, win trophies, Champions League and hopefully win the league within a couple of years.

“That’s from everyone, this club needs to be at the top and needs to play European football.

“We haven’t discussed it much but that’s just how it should be at this club and that’s the standard.”

Arsenal go into Saturday’s game against Norwich level on zero points with the Canaries, who have even managed to score a goal. It is that goal that keeps them above Arsenal at the bottom of the table.
