England announced their squad for the October international break on Thursday, with Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka and Aaron Ramsdale both featuring.

Gareth Southgate’s side are set to play a couple of World Cup qualifiers over the break, as they look to consolidate their position at the top of Group I.

First up, they play Andorra away on Saturday, 9th October. Then they’ll host Hungary on Tuesday, 12th October. Both games are at 19:45 BST.

Unfortunately, Ben White and Emile Smith Rowe both missed out on the squad on this occasion.

On the surface of it, White’s case should have been somewhat aided by Harry Maguire’s recent injury with Manchester United.

That will have forced a bit of a rethink on the centre-back position, as well as the fact John Stones is yet to play a single minute this season. Yet Stones was called up anyway, and Conor Coady also got a spot ahead of White.

As for Smith Rowe, it’s not hugely surprising to see him excluded. He’s only played a couple of games for the England u21s, so we’ll probably see him at that level a bit more often before he gets a senior call-up.
