Arsenal reportedly offered to almost triple Takehiro Tomiyasu’s Bologna wages when they offered him a four-year deal with an option for a fifth.

Arsenal signed Takehiro Tomiyasu on deadline day after briefly being linked with him at the start of the window. For most of the summer, however, the defender looked set to join Tottenham if he moved to the Premier League.

Arsenal had been hoping they could swap Hector Bellerin in part for Emerson Royal but Spurs offered more money for him. Ronald Koeman also reportedly had some reservations about Hector Bellerin, so he ended up at Real Betis and Arsenal went for Tomiyasu.

At Bologna, Tomiyasu earned around £13,000 a week which equates to £676,000-a-eayr. That’s a lot of money for us mere mortals but in terms of wages at Arsenal, it’s peanuts.

Corriere di Bologna report that Arsenal almost tripled the 22-yer-old’s wages, although they don’t give a specific figure. £40k, however, seems a reasonable figure.
