Late on Tuesday, Arsenal confirmed that Jonathan Dinzeyi had joined League Two side Carlisle United on loan for the 2021/22 season. It will be the centre-back’s first taste of senior football, having featured exclusively for the Arsenal and Spurs youth teams before now.

Dinzeyi joined Arsenal on a free transfer last summer, and he made 18 appearances for the u23s and u21s across the campaign.

Given he’s now 21, the defender really does need to get some senior experience, and he was one of a number of players Arsenal listed for loan at the start of the summer. It took until the final day of the window, but he eventually got his move.

Given the loan was finalised so late in the day, Carlisle United clearly haven’t yet had a chance to do the usual media duties with the player, so their signing announcement isn’t particularly informative. But the key thing is that he’ll now have a chance to impress in first-team football.

After the first five games of the season, Carlisle sit in mid-table in 12th. Dinzeyi will now hope to win a starting spot and help push them up the standings.
