As Arsenal were getting humiliated against Manchester City, William Saliba and Matteo Guendouzi were in France preparing to star once again for Marseille.

William Slaiba, an Arsenal defender, who has yet to play for Arsenal despite being signed over two years ago, has an average rating this season of 7.43, a score higher than any Arsenal player has managed in any match this season.

Against Saint-Etienne, Saliba was rated 7.9 on Fotmob.

About his performance on Saturday evening, Get French Football News wrote, “Unfortunately scuffed a big chance wide early on but was supreme defensively, showing the serenity and assuredness that made him so exciting when he broke through with Les Verts. Despite a couple of concentration lapses, this was by far his best display in his short OM career.”

Man of the match, however, was Matteo Guendouzi with a whopping 8.5 after the midfielder scored his first goal for the club.

GFFN wrote, “His surprisingly attacking role in these opening weeks meant he was in a position to follow up for the opener before his skimming shot flicked the post prior to half time. Typically a little erratic at times but his intensity and driving of play was central to an all-action OM display.”

Guendouzi’s average rating for the season so far is 7.15. At Arsenal, the best performing player this season is Emile Smith Rowe with an average rating of 6.83. The highest score picked up in any of Arsenal’s three league matches by a player is 7.2, which Smith Rowe was awarded after the Brentford game.

Against Chelsea, the highest score by an Arsenal player was 7 (Smith Rowe again) and against City it was 6.3 (guess who?).

Needless to say, Saliba and Guendouzi both sound like players Arsenal could really do with right now.
