The Roker Report podcast reports that Sunderland are in preliminary talks with Arsenal over the potential loan signing of Ryan Alebiosu. The League One club are looking to add to the right-hand side of their defence.

Sky Sports’ Tom White told the podcast that the two clubs are only in talks at the moment. It would be a loan move if it goes through, but Sunderland are yet to actually make an offer for the Arsenal youngster.

A loan move would be good for Alebiosu, who is 19 and has plenty of experience of youth football already. Arsenal are well aware of, hence why they included him on a list of their youth players available for loan this summer.

A move to League One, particularly to a club battling near the top of the table like Sunderland, seems like it could be a good one. There’s certainly little chance of Alebiosu getting first-team chances at Arsenal right now, given the current right-back situation.

It’s up to Sunderland to put an offer in now. It’s hard to see Arsenal or Alebiosu putting up much resistance to the move if the League One side formalise their interest soon.
