Portsmouth are among several clubs monitoring the situation of Miguel Azeez, with the possibility of a loan to the Championship also on the table.

Football League World (via Portsmouth.co.uk) report that Portsmouth FC have been keeping tabs on Miguel Azeez ahead of a potential summer loan move, despite the fact they’ve already brought in plenty of midfielders this window – signing four.

Portsmouth are far from the only club interested. Several others are believed to be monitoring Azeez’s situation, and a loan to the Championship is on the cards.

I wouldn’t read too much into the rumours just yet, however. Recent reports from the Arsenal end suggest they’re unlikely to loan Azeez out this season, particularly if they don’t end up signing another senior central midfielder.

After all, the club are relatively light in the position at the moment. With Thomas Partey out, Joe Willock leaving, and Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Lucas Torreira linked with exits, new signing Albert Sambi Lokonga has ended up with a bigger role than expected alongside Granit Xhaka.

Other than that there’s only really Mohamed Elneny. If Maitland-Niles and Torreira did leave, Azeez would end up looking like the fourth-choice central midfielder and likely to get at least a few games.

The long and short of it is that if Arsenal did want to loan Azeez out, they’d have takers. There’s just no confirmation that is what they want at this stage.
