With the rumours of a transfer to Fiorentina in full swing, Lucas Torreira effectively confirmed them himself by posting a picture on a plane bound for Italy on his Instagram story. According to Sky Sports, Torreira was undergoing his medical assessment on Tuesday.

Fabrizio Romano reports that the player has now completed that medical and the two sides have signed the paperwork on an initial loan deal. Fiorentina will pay Arsenal €1.5m upfront, followed by a further €15m if they want to activate his option to buy at the end of the season.

Previous reports suggest Fiorentina are likely to cover Torreira’s full salary for the coming year, so that’s another financial benefit.

Arsenal442 reported that Torreira’s agent Pablo Bentancur worked hard this summer to find the player a new club, offering him to more than five Italian sides. Roma and Lazio were two other interested clubs, but Fiorentina were the ones to meet Torreira’s conditions.

The hope now is that Torreira will perform well in Italy and push Fiorentina to activate his purchase option.
