Reports on an Arsenal move for Martin Odegaard are starting to pick up, with a loan and first refusal option the latest proposal making the rounds.

The Mirror report in their print edition that Martin Odegaard’s representatives are expected to fly into London on Sunday to sort an agreement for his return to Arsenal. The player wants a deal in place by next Friday.

Interestingly, the Mirror suggest Arsenal are in pole position for another loan, but this time with a first refusal option to sign him for around £30m next summer. They’d have to pay his wages in full for the loan this season.

All in all, that sounds like a pretty good deal. Another season without having to commit a big fee, leaving funds for other areas, and a very reasonable purchase fee next summer if things go well.

It’s worth mentioning that not all reporters are on the same wavelength, however. Eirik Nesset Hjelvik of Norwegian outlet TV2 Sporten reports that Real still value Odegaard highly, there’s no final clarification on his future and they don’t want a cheap sale.

In Spain, ABC report that Arsenal and Real Madrid are in talks, but Real want up to €50m (£42.5m).

Though the same report suggests they could settle for €40m with add-ons and a buy-back clause, and that Arsenal are likely to open negotiations with a €30m bid or another loan request, which is much more similar to the Mirror’s claims.

Negotiations still seem to be in the early stages, which is probably why we’re getting this uncertainty in the reporting. If Odegaard’s representatives really are on the way to London, we should get more clarity before long.
