Lucas Torreira has left Arsenal to join Fiorentina on loan for the season although he is unlikely to return.

With the rumours of a transfer to Fiorentina in full swing, Lucas Torreira effectively confirmed them himself by posting a picture on a plane bound for Italy on his Instagram story. According to Sky Sports, Torreira was undergoing his medical assessment on Tuesday.

A simple statement on the Fiorentina site read, “ACF Fiorentina is delighted to announce the signing of Lucas Torreira on loan with an option to purchase from Arsenal Football Club.

“The Uruguay international – born in Fray Bentos on 11 February 1996 – spent last season at Atletico Madrid, helping the club win La Liga.

“Torreira has 31 Uruguay caps to his name and recently played for his country in the Copa America.
