Granit Xhaka says he’s very happy with his new Arsenal contract, which was announced in a statement from Stan and Josh Kroenke at the weekend.

Rather strangely, Arsenal are yet to post an article on the club website or a tweet on social media to confirm Granit Xhaka’s new contract, but they’re running content surrounding the extension anyway.

As we covered on Sunday, Arsenal released an official statement from Stan and Josh Kroenke which contained a reference to Xhaka’s extension, and the player himself has now spoken to the club website about the new deal.

“I’m very happy, I’m still here,” Xhaka said. “I’ve signed a new contract of course and I want to give back, first of all to our staff, and then after to our fans, and they know I will give everything – in every game and every training session. So yeah, I think we have to show that as a team soon.”

It’s starting to seem less and less likely we’ll get any kind of official announcement post from Arsenal at this stage, if they’re openly discussing the extension on club channels.

Speaking ahead of the Chelsea game, Mikel Arteta claimed Arsenal never actually wanted to sell Xhaka, and they convinced him he has an important part to play for his current side.

Reports suggest Xhaka was always happy to stay at Arsenal, even if he was aware of the Roma interest and clearly willing to go there if the two clubs reached an agreement. It didn’t pan out that way, and the Swiss international is set to stay.
