Of the four Arsenal academy players now in and around the Brentford first team, two have a realistic shot of making the squad to face the Gunners on Friday.

Making the switch from Arsenal to Brentford has proven a popular pathway for academy players in recent seasons. Josh Dasilva, Dominic Thompson, and Daniel Oyegoke all made the transfer directly in the last few years, whilst Finley Stevens went via non-league football.

22-year-old defensive midfielder Dasilva has been the biggest success story so far, making 103 appearances and playing a big role in Brentford’s promotion pushes since joining.

Unfortunately, Dasilva is out injured and Brentford boss Thomas Frank has confirmed there’s no specific return date for him yet. Needless to say he won’t be involved against Arsenal.

Another unlikely to be involved is Oyegoke, who only joined Brentford this summer. He’s been settling in with the Brentford B team for the time being, so he’s not yet in contention for Premier League appearances.

The two with more of a chance of a squad role (or more) are Stevens and Thompson.

Stevens made a start against AFC Wimbledon earlier in pre-season, before providing an assist against Manchester United from right-back. He then made a substitute appearance against West Ham and he was on the bench against Valencia over the weekend.

Left-back Thompson has been even more involved, playing 45 minutes or more against Wimbledon, Manchester United, and West Ham, though he was also just on the bench against Valencia.

It seems unlikely either of them get a chance to start against their old club, but a place on the bench certainly doesn’t seem out of the question.
