Lucas Torreira is the target of several Italian sides at the moment, including AS Roma, with Arsenal open to moving him on before the end of the window.

Football.London report that Arsenal are still trying to make further signings in the current transfer window, but at this point any deals depend on moving players on first.

One of the players up for sale is Lucas Torreira, with several Italian sides reportedly interested in him. One of those is AS Roma, who tried to sign Granit Xhaka earlier in the window.

It would be strange if Torreira was considered a direct alternative to Xhaka for Roma. After all, the two have pretty different playing styles. But if Roma are looking for a defensive midfielder, then the Uruguayan international is certainly available.

Lazio have also been linked with a move, though there are now suggestions they could finalise a deal for Toma Basic of Bordeaux instead.

Up until recently, Torreira was in Madrid, having had to travel via Spain on his return from Uruguay. Unfortunately, Uruguay are currently a red-list country for the UK, so it wasn’t possible for him to travel directly to London without quarantining in a hotel.

It was clearly better for Torreira to spend time in Madrid, where he was still able to go to the gym and train in a back garden, rather than being stuck in a hotel room.

But he should be back in London now. It’s been more than 10 days since he left Uruguay, so any further absence from the Arsenal training ground can’t be explained by Covid regulations.
