Arsenal ran out 4-0 winners in the match following the men’s game, thanks to Hennessy with a brace, McCabe (pen) and Patten the scorers.

Jonas Eidevall, who began his tenure following his quarantine, selected the following starting XI: Zinsberger; Maritz, Goldie, Boye-Sorensen, McCabe; Walti, Patten, Maanum; Mead, Hennessy, Evans.

The Olympics players were not involved as we look towards the UEFA Women’s Champions League qualifying Round 1 in Russia in under 10 days. Arsenal confirmed this would be their last pre-season game.

Arsenal looked to be defending bit higher than last season, but still allowed Spurs to have a lot of possession in the first half. Youngster, Alex Hennessy opened, the scoring with a header from close range, following a quality short cross from Anna Patten.

Katie McCabe scored a penalty after Beth Mead was naively fouled by the former Arsenal youngster, Jessica Naz, in the penalty area. Anna Patten, who was playing out of position in midfield, added the third goal with a powerful shot.

The final goal came deep in injury time when Lisa Evans put the ball on a plate for Hennessy to score her second goal from close range to make it 4-0.

Overall, it was an interesting game and Arsenal end their preseason with two wins over our London rivals, which is very positive.

Many Academy players were also given a chance in those two games.

Of course, the Arsenal manager is in a race against time to integrate all the players that went to Tokyo before the Champions League qualifying Round 1 on 18 and 21 August.

The starting XI against Okzhetpes should see many of the Olympians back in like Williamson,  Miedema, Catley, Foord or Iwabuchi.

Hopefully Mead’s ankle problem won’t be a serious one as we already have one serious injury this season with Jordan Nobbs.
