On Tuesday morning, one lucky Marseille fan managed to catch William Saliba for a photo (above) as the Arsenal defender prepared to complete his loan transfer.

The previous day, David Ornstein had reported that Arsenal had reached an agreement to loan Saliba to Marseille for the coming season, with no option to buy in the contract. Arsenal will receive a loan fee, but they haven’t extended Saliba’s deal past 2024.

Saliba chose Marseille over Newcastle United and Lille, and only the medical remains to conclude the loan.

Julien Maynard added that Saliba would complete his medical visit on Tuesday, which appears to be correct based on the photos of Saliba’s arrival. It wasn’t much of a secret, with Saliba’s agent also posting an Instagram picture on a plane.

So Saliba won’t be joining his Arsenal teammates for pre-season in Scotland, instead wrapping his Marseille move in the coming days.

Saliba made 22 appearances on loan with Nice last season, but he’ll now get the chance to complete the first full campaign of his career with Marseille. After that, we can only hope Arsenal will give him a fair shot.
