Despite his public goodbye to the Arsenal fans, a Martin Odegaard transfer to North London still appears to be a possibility this summer.

Over the last month, Martin Odegaard first told the media that Real Madrid have made it clear they want him back, before posting a thank-you message to Arsenal on his Instagram account – a message that very much seemed like a farewell.

But The Athletic report that whilst Odegaard is a project Real Madrid would like to see succeed, they would listen to any significant offers for him.

In another piece from the same outlet, The Athletic write that Mikel Arteta holds Odegaard in high regard, and though the ball is clearly not in their court they want to be ready if the player finds himself on the market again.

The door “remains open”, and Arsenal might wait until August to see if Odegaard gets game time before potentially making another move.

There’s obviously very little certainty here. Real Madrid might throw Odegaard into the mix immediately and end any potential hopes of a transfer. Arsenal might not be the only club to bid for him if he’s available. Real might price the Gunners out.

The safe assumption is that the Norwegian 22-year-old will not be making his loan move permanent this summer. It’s just not completely off the cards yet.
