After Arsenal came to an agreement to send William Saliba on loan to Marseille for the season, Matteo Guendouzi’s move suddenly came unstuck after weeks of wrangling.

The 23-year-old has now landed in Marseille and is moving ever closer to the official announcement.

Arsenal wanted €20m for Guendouzi but they have settled for just €12m, most of which they won’t get until next summer. His deal is a one-year loan with an obligation to buy at the end of it.

When Mikel Arteta arrived at Arsenal, Guendouzi was valued at £45m and was a regular first team starter, but a handful of games later, he was out of the squad altogether, so what really happened between Mikel Arteta and Matteo Guendouzi? Find out here.
