Alexandre Lacazette could run down his contract with Arsenal if things don’t change in the next few weeks, according to Chris Wheatley.

Answering questions in an Instagram Q&A, Football.London reporter Chris Wheatley gave his thoughts on Alexandre Lacazette’s situation this summer.

“My personal view is that he’s likely to run down his contract,” Wheatley wrote. “He’s on a big salary that most European teams will struggle to pay unless Arsenal contribute to it. One to look out for over the next few weeks.”

Earlier in the summer, Football.London reported that there was interest in Lacazette from around Europe. His agent was reportedly in talks with the likes of AS Roma, Atletico Madrid, and AS Monaco, among others.

At the time, there was also talk of a potential contract extension for the striker, with Arsenal expected to offer him an extra year.

Yet there doesn’t seem to have been much progress on either front. There are no reports that he’s closing in on a transfer, nor that Arsenal have followed through in making him a contract offer.

Instead, we’re heading towards pre-season with the suggestion that Lacazette will remain with the club for another season before leaving for free. But it’s still fairly early in the window, so I wouldn’t write off a transfer just yet.
