Charles Watts wrote on 30 June that Daniel Ballard was in the process of completing a 2021/22 loan move to Millwall, holding a medical at the club the same day.

Arsenal have now confirmed the move.

Football Insider initially broke the news last weekend that Millwall were leading the race to sign Ballard on loan. Watts then confirmed the story, tweeting that Ballard was edging towards a Millwall move.

At that point, Ballard hadn’t actually signed the deal, nor held a medical, but that has now been sorted.

Previous reports suggested at least five Championship clubs were interested in Ballard, as well as some clubs overseas. Blackpool were particularly keen to bring him back after the centre-back spent the 2020/21 campaign on loan with them.

But Blackpool are only now trying to settle into the Championship after their promotion from League One, whilst Millwall are a more established side in the division. That may well have influenced Arsenal and Ballard’s decision.
