Brighton and Hove Albion sources claim the club have no interest in Reiss Nelson this summer, despite reports to the contrary.

The Athletic’s Brighton and Hove Albion correspondent Andy Naylor reports that though lots of reports have linked Brighton with Reiss Nelson, the club have no interest in the Arsenal youngster.

Brighton have previously been named by CBS Sports alongside Crystal Palace, Brentford, and Olympiacos as clubs on the list of suitors for Nelson, but it seems they’re one to cross off the list now.

Nelson had even stoked the fires of the rumour a bit himself, liking an Instagram post about the links between him and Brighton. As usual, Instagram likes remain a pretty terrible way to judge the validity of a story.

What we do know is that Nelson’s Arsenal deal expires in 12 months, and he’s yet to accept the club’s offer to extend and move on loan. Unless he does so in the coming weeks, a sale seems like the most likely conclusion.

Though CBS Sports also reported that there was some interest in Nelson from Germany, the suggestion is that those clubs are willing to wait until next year to secure the winger on a free transfer.

Nelson has featured in both of Arsenal’s pre-season friendlies so far, playing 45 minutes against Hibs and 29 against Rangers. But it seems like he’s already settling for a substitute role even before Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli return.

It doesn’t seem likely he’s set to break back into the Arsenal side this season, so a loan or a permanent move make the most sense for the coming campaign.
