After their 4-0 win away to a Chelmsford City academy side last weekend, the Arsenal u18s played their first match against senior opposition against Tavistock AFC on Thursday.

Goalkeeper Remy Mitchell captained the Gunners, and they took an early lead through Amani Richards within the first five minutes. Richards looks to be carrying his good form from the end of last season into the new campaign.

Arsenal dominated possession as the first half went on, and eventually scored after a free-kick 24 minutes in. Though the initial shot hit the bar, Charles Sagoe Jr was on hand to score the rebound.

A few minutes later, James Sweet forced a save, and after a rare stop for Mitchell in the Arsenal net, Arsenal made it 3-0 from the penalty spot with half-time approaching.

Just as against Chelmsford, Khayon Edwards stepped up to convert the spot-kick, despite the goalkeeper getting a touch on it.

If Tavistock were hoping to get back into the game after the half-time break, those hopes were quickly dashed by Mauro Bandeira scoring the goal of the game.

The midfielder cut in off the left-hand side and smashed a shot into the top corner for 4-0. Arsenal continued to have the vast majority of possession for the remainder of the game, but the sting was taken out of the game by that goal.

The Gunners had one more decent chance to add another with a goalmouth scramble and a clearance off the line, but it ended with the same score as the Chelmsford friendly.
