A few months ago, when Paul Onuachu declared his love for Arsenal, there was no reported interest from the club in the forward, but that seems to have changed.

Paul Onuachu currently plays for Genk where he scored 35 goals in 41 games last season and was voted the Belgian League’s Pro Player of the Year.

The 27-year-old Nigerian international, who stands just one inch shorter than Peter Crouch, is available this summer with The Athletic reporting that Arsenal, along with Watford and West Ham, are interested in bringing the player to England.

West Ham fans seem to think that Onuachu would pick Arsenal over them, while the Athletic believe even £20m will be beyond Watford. Score Nigeria believe the Arsenal are in the lead for the Nigerian’s signature, although they state their information comes from the Athletic, something I could not verify.

“I really like Arsenal,” Onuachu told Sporza, via Voetbal in April.

“[Emmanuel] Adebayor, one of the players I admired most, played there. I really was a fan of him, including Kanu. I really love watching Arsenal too.”

That wasn’t the first time he expressed his love of Arsenal. Back in 2018, when he was with FC Midtjylland, he was thinking of a future that involved playing for Arsenal.

“Arsenal. The way they play is just the kind of football I like to see – and so I would like to play for Arsenal at one point,” he told Politiken.

“When I was on a weekend trip to London some years ago with the FCM squad, we were out to see Arsenal. It was an experience. The Premier League is great and Arsenal is a giant club with a nice history.”

Onuachu signed for Genk in the summer of 2019 for £5.4m from FC Midtjylland.

He has scored a total of 45 goals, with seven assists, in 69 games, averaging a goal or assist every 98 minutes. Last season, that average was one every 81.75 minutes.
