Thomas Partey has pulled out of the Ghana squad for their upcoming friendly, despite previous reports he was kicked out of the camp.

Chris Wheatley reports that Thomas Partey was granted permission to miss Ghana’s upcoming friendly matches. He asked Ghana boss Charles Kwabla Akonnor to be excused from the current round of fixtures, and Akonnor accepted Partey’s request.

Ghana Soccernet had previously reported that Partey had been kicked out of the Ghana camp after turning up late for training, ahead of their international friendly match against Morocco on Tuesday.

But it seems this wasn’t the case, and his withdrawal from the squad was by mutual agreement.

Partey has just come off the back of a long and pretty unsatisfying season at club level. He made 36 appearances including three for Atletico, despite the fact he had a muscle injury, a hip injury, and a hamstring injury keeping him out for weeks at a time.

Essentially, the 27-year-old has been bouncing back and forth between the medical room and the pitch, with only two games in the entire season where he was fit and didn’t play (Dundalk and Molde in the Europa League group stage).

As a result, you can understand why he might be tired, and why it might be the best thing for everyone if he takes some time off now.
