AZ Alkmaar midfielder Teun Koopmeiners is on Arsenal’s list of potential summer targets, according to a report.

Constantin Eckner, editor-in-chief at Spielverlagerung and writer for the likes of the BBC, The Times, and Sport1, claims Netherlands midfielder Teun Koopmeiners is on Atalanta’s shortlist and Arsenal’s longlist for this summer.

Evidently, Eckner believes Atalanta are the club more on Koopmeiners’ case for the moment. But with the way potential targets are coming and going for Arsenal so far, it’s hard to say which players they’ll end up making serious moves for.

Koopmeiners had a good season in midfield, scoring 17 goals and assisting seven for AZ in 40 appearances. Admittedly, eight of those goals were penalties, but hitting nine open play goals and seven assists is still impressive given he’s not a number 10.

In fact, the Dutch international tends to play a deeper role in midfield, even playing centre-back on a few occasions this season.

Koopmeiners is away with his country at the Euros right now, making the bench against Ukraine on Sunday. The 23-year-old has only made one appearance for the Netherlands so far, but his performances for AZ and the Dutch u21s got him a Euros call-up.

With the rumours surrounding Granit Xhaka’s exit – albeit an unconfirmed exit at this point – Arsenal will certainly be in the market for midfielders this summer.
