After breaking the news of Arsenal’s advancing negotiations to sign Ben White on Thursday, David Ornstein added that there are widespread reports that the club’s move for Albert Sambi Lokonga is progressing positively.

Chris Wheatley wrote that Sambi Lokonga should be next in after White, with Sky Sports reporting that Arsenal are in positive talks with Anderlecht over the signing of the midfielder.

A fee is yet to be agreed but the two sides are not far apart, and personal terms are not expected to be an issue.

Fabrizio Romano says the player has been approached by Serie A side Atalanta, but he ‘only wants Arsenal’ as his priority transfer.

Previous reports suggest personal terms are already done, and there’s optimism from all sides that they can reach a deal. Arsenal have made two offers so far, and their third is expected to get the transfer over the line.

Sambi Lokonga made 37 appearances for Anderlecht this season, as well as a few for the Belgium u21s. His performances earned him a senior Belgium call-up, but he was the unlucky ’27th man’ at Euro 2020, narrowly missing out on the squad.

The 21-year-old is already captain of his club side and highly rated by his country. A promising and dynamic defensive midfielder, it’s no surprise Arsenal are interested.
