Marseille are still trying to sign Matteo Guendouzi despite their move for Gerson, and they’ll push for the Arsenal midfielder after that deal is done.

L’Equipe (via Sport Witness) report that Marseille’s attempt to sign Brazilian midfielder Gerson this summer will not impact their pursuit of Matteo Guendouzi. The Arsenal man remains in Jorge Sampaoli’s plans for his midfield.

Guendouzi is reportedly unlikely to return to Arsenal, with his relationship with Mikel Arteta in tatters. He’s already met with Marseille’s president and Sampaoli to discuss a move. He’s prioritising a transfer to the Ligue 1 club over other options.

Marseille are in negotiations with Arsenal, searching for a reasonable financial agreement for a transfer.

Previous reports suggested Guendouzi had an agreement with Marseille over a four-year contract with the club, meaning it’s just down to whether or not the two teams involved can agree.

RMC’s Mohamed Bouhafsi reported in late May that a potential transfer for Guendouzi to Marseille had advanced in recent days, but there’s no agreement between the two clubs at this stage.

Football.London also wrote that Guendouzi is expected to leave Arsenal in the coming weeks, with Marseille the current favourites to sign him.

Guendouzi has a year left on his Arsenal deal, and he’s currently out injured. He picked up a fractured metatarsal in his foot during his final game for Hertha. The French u21 international made 24 appearances on loan in Germany this season.
