Bukayo Saka should be back in training for England by the middle of the week, with no concerns around his Euro 2020 involvement.

Mark Mann-Bryans reports that Bukayo Saka will return to training with England in the next few days, after the injury that ruled him out of the clash with Romania at the weekend.

Saka reportedly has a hip flexor issue, but there are no concerns that it will impact on his Euro 2020 involvement.

The Athletic initially broke the news of Saka’s injury, but even at the time, they reported that the FA were relaxed about the situation. It was never expected to keep him out of the European Championships – which kick off this weekend.

Gareth Southgate was impressed by Saka’s performance in last week’s friendly win over Austria, as the 19-year-old won the Player of the Match award and scored the winning goal.

It’s possible that display thrust Saka more into Southgate’s tournament plans than originally intended, but the injury isn’t helping matters.

Despite receiving a call-up to the final 26, there are no guarantees Saka will be in the matchday squad to face Croatia. Only 23 players will feature in the squad for each match, so three will always miss out.
