Yorkshire Live reported on Thursday morning that Tony Strudwick was leaving Sheffield Wednesday to work for Arsenal. They explained that the former head of sports science and medicine at Wednesday will now perform the same role for Arsenal’s academy.

Strudwick had also previously worked for Manchester United, and currently works as the Wales national team’s head of performance as well as his club role. He’s reportedly vastly experienced and respected, with his exit from Wednesday described as a ‘big blow’.

The Evening Standard repeat the claims that Strudwick is set to join Arsenal this summer.

Arsenal have had quite a few problems with academy injuries this season. Players like Salah-Eddine Oulad M’Hand have missed effectively the entire campaign, and it’s hard to name a key academy prospect who hasn’t missed at least a few weeks.

If Strudwick can make use of his experience to address that problem, it would be a big boost for the many talented players coming through the ranks right now.
