Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has no plans to leave Arsenal this summer, despite the many rumours concerning a number of his teammates.
Over the last few days, as many as seven senior Arsenal players have been reported to want out of the club this summer. Whether you believe the reports or not, David Luiz, Willian, Bernd Leno, Granit Xhaka, Hector Bellerin, Alexandre Lacazette, and Lucas Torreira all make the list.
One high-profile player who doesn’t is Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The Guardian claim Aubameyang is not one of the players looking for new pastures, and he’s understood to have no designs on pursuing a future elsewhere.
The 31-year-old obviously hasn’t had his best season in an Arsenal shirt. With a couple of games to go, he’s only up to 15 goals in all competitions. That’s a sharp drop-off from his previous two full seasons in North London, where he managed 31 and 29 goals.
Part of that has been down to a couple of injuries, a struggle with malaria, and the team simply not providing enough goalscoring opportunities for the striker. Plus, he’s only one goal contribution behind club-leader Alexandre Lacazette, even in a bad year.
It’s not as if the 31-year-old is in poor form right now. He assisted the winner against Chelsea, scored and assisted against Newcastle and I’d argue he was a little unlucky not to get a goal against Villarreal, given he hit the woodwork twice from half-chances.
Personally, I think he still has more to give next season, and I’d be glad to see him stay.
