Still without a goal or assist since leaving Arsenal in January, Mesut Ozil missed eight league games for Fenerbahce with both a ruptured ankle ligament and Covid.

The German started in a 0-0 draw against Alanyaspor on Thursday, the side he initially picked his injury up against, before being substituted after 65 minutes.

Mesut Ozil finally brought the curtain down on his Arsenal career at the start of 2021 when he sealed a ‘dream move’ to Fenerbahce but, if he’s honest, it’s been a bit of a nightmare since he signed.

Now worth just £4.5m, Ozil has played just 483 minutes of football for Fenerbahce since his free move in January.

With an average fotmob rating of 6.46 (6.1 on his return) during his time in Turkey, Ozil has still to register a goal or assist and and there are only four games left of the season for Fenerbahce. He is currently sidelined with an ankle ligament rupture.

Much was made about the paycut that Ozil took to leave Arsenal, however, it was revealed this week that Arsenal are still paying 90% of Mesut Ozil’s £350kpw wages.

This will end when his Arsenal contract finally runs out this summer. His contract in Turkey runs until 2024 when he will then ‘only’ be paid the sum of £70,000 per week.
