Arsenal confirmed that they had sold Jill Roord to Wolfsburg for an undisclosed fee on Monday. The midfielder has signed a three-year contract until June 30 2024.

The move had been rumoured for a while and brings an end to the midfielder’s two years in London after arriving in 2019 from Bayern Munich.

Roord made 50 appearances for Arsenal, scoring 15 goals including three hattricks.

Arsenal added their usual “Everyone at Arsenal would like to thank Jill for her contribution to the team’s success and we wish her the best for her future,” statement when making the announcement.

Speaking to the official Wolfsburg site, Roord said, “I’m very proud and really looking forward to wearing a VfL Wolfsburg jersey from this summer.

“From my point of view, it’s exactly the right step in terms of my personal development. I obviously want to play my role in the team being successful and winning titles.”

“At 24, Jill is already an integral part of the Dutch national team and has an incredible amount of international experience for someone of her age,” said Ralf Kellermann, VfL Women sporting director. “We’ve been keeping an eye on her development for a long time now and are delighted with the fact that she will be playing in VfL colours in the future. Jill is a very flexible midfielder and will be such a strong addition to our team.”
