Mat Ryan has claimed that both he and Bernd Leno are ‘world class’ goalkeepers.
Mat Ryan signed for Arsenal on loan after he was dropped from the Brighton team.
Since signing for the Gunners, he’s made just three appearances for the club he supports but that doesn’t seem to have dented his confidence any.
Speaking to Optus Sport, Ryan said, “Obviously I knew that Arsenal have a great goalkeeper in Bernd, what he’s done in his career is testament to the world class goalkeeper he is.
“But at the same time, I have self-belief that I’m also a world class goalkeeper.”
Look, I like Leno but there is no denying he has seen his form dip somewhat. Rumour has it he fancies a change of scenery this summer and the club are on the lookout for a replacement and that won’t break my heart.
Arsenal also seem likely to give Ryan a permanent deal, but that will be as Arsenal’s number two.
I can’t sit here and argue that a man not good enough for a Brighton and another, who let the ball roll through his fingers into the net to cost us three points, are world class.
Self-confidence is good. Self-delusion is not.
