Arsenal won’t allow Lucas Torreira to return to Atletico Madrid this summer, even though the midfielder is open to the move.

According to reports in the Spanish media (via Football-Espana), Arsenal won’t allow Lucas Torreira to go on loan to Atletico Madrid again next season.

The player himself is reportedly happy in Madrid and open to another loan move if the possibility presented itself, but Arsenal are clearly not keen on the idea.

For the record, it’s not clear that this was an option on the table in the first place. Mundo Deportivo claim Atletico Madrid have no intention of trying to bring the midfielder back – at least as things stand.

Torreira’s father Ricardo has been speaking to the media this week about his son’s future, suggesting Lucas is expecting to leave Arsenal for one club or another.

Following the death of his mother due to a Covid-19 infection, Torreira has repeatedly made it clear that he wants to return to South America and join his boyhood club Boca Juniors. But that’s another one where the player seems keener than the buying club.

Torreira has made 26 appearances for Atletico Madrid this season, but only five starts. That certainly hasn’t done much to fuel the interest in him ahead of the summer.
