Arsenal announced the results of their April Player of the Month award on Thursday, with Alexandre Lacazette winning the fan vote. Lacazette claimed 60% of the votes ahead of Nicolas Pepe in second and Bukayo Saka in third.

After the first week or so, it would have been hard to imagine Lacazette winning the award for the month. He kicked things off by struggling to get involved in the defeat to Liverpool and was then vilified in some quarters for his first leg miss against Slavia Prague.

But he bounced back in style, scoring a brace in the Prague second leg before bagging another brace in the subsequent Premier League win over Sheffield United. Sadly, his month then ended early with an injury against Fulham.

Lacazette is yet to return from that injury, though he’s back in training and rumours suggest he might make the squad to face Villarreal on Thursday night.

If he does, then ideally he’ll have a similar impact to the second leg against Slavia Prague. Arsenal may well need him to.
