Vivianne Miedema’s agent, Leoni Blokhuis, has denied that her client will be heading to Lyon as part of a swap deal that would bring Nikita Parris to the club.

Earlier, Sylvain Jamet wrote about the rumours that Vivianne Miedema could be off to Lyon rather than seeing out her final year at Arsenal and the club losing her on a free.

The move seemed to make no sense from Arsenal’s perspective, as it would have represented a serious downgrade in attacking talent, but thankfully Miedema’s agent has put the rumours to bed.

For now at least.

Speaking to De Telegraaf, Blokhuis said, “Vivianne will remain, as it looks now, at Arsenal next season.

“That is her last contract year.”

The final line is certainly ominous, but a talent of Miedema’s stature should be playing with a chance of winning all the major honours in the game and it is up to Arsenal to show her than she can do that in London.

It’s also worth noting that this doesn’t mean Suzanne Wrack’s exclusive in the Guardian was not on the money.

As ominous as the last line of Miedema’s agent’s quote is, the first is telling – “Vivianne will remain, as it looks now…” very clearly points to it looking differently until this story came out.
