After they both had scans on their respective injuries just last week, Zech Medley and James Olayinka returned to action this weekend.

Reports after last weekend confirmed that Arsenal loanees Zech Medley and James Olayinka would both need scans on their injury problems.

Medley suffered a clash of heads in his appearance for Kilmarnock against Stenhousemuir, whilst Olayinka was forced to miss Southend United’s matches against Carlise United and Morecambe with a groin injury.

Fortunately, Medley’s assessments revealed no concussion and no serious injury to his cheekbone, just some facial bone bruising. Olayinka’s assessment confirmed he’d need minor surgery at some stage, but it’s something they can put off until summer.

As a result, both players were free to return to the matchday squads this weekend. Medley made the starting lineup in Kilmarnock’s draw with Ross County, and Olayinka came off the bench for a cameo in Southend’s draw with Crawley Town.

Realistically, both teams need to start putting some wins on the board if they want to avoid relegation. But a couple of draws is something at least, and the two loanees will hope for more as they get further chances in the coming weeks.
