Konstantinos Mavropanos says the door is open for him to return to VfB Stuttgart next season, but he can’t confirm his future just yet.

Making another start against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday, Konstantinos Mavropanos is proving a key part of the current VfB Stuttgart side. He’s now on a run of 10 consecutive Bundesliga starts.

That’s led to a lot of speculation around his future, with some Arsenal fans calling on the club to recall the defender, whilst Stuttgart sporting director Sven Mislintat tells the media they want him on loan again next season.

Speaking to BILD about whether he’ll return to Arsenal next season, Mavropanos himself was noncommittal.

“I can’t say that at the moment,” Mavropanos said (via Sport Witness). “Things can change quickly in football. I still have two months here in Stuttgart and would like to end the season with the team as high up as possible.

“The door at VfB is open for me [to stay another year] – that’s very good, but I can only think specifically about the future when we have talks with Arsenal for the new season.”

Arsenal are likely to be reviewing their situation at right-centre-back ahead of next season. At the moment, they have David Luiz, Rob Holding, and Calum Chambers, but Luiz is out of contract this summer and Chambers is playing at right-back.

The club have plenty of centre-backs out on loan, but Mavropanos and William Saliba are probably the two with the best chance to break into the team next season. We’ll likely see them in pre-season before any firm decisions are made.
