Mesut Ozil finally brought the curtain down on his Arsenal career at the start of 2021 when he sealed a ‘dream move’ to Fenerbahce but if he’s honest, it’s been a bit of a nightmare since he signed.

Mesut Ozil, now worth just £4.5m, has played just 418 minutes of football for Fenerbahce since his free move in January.

With an average fotmob rating of 6.46 during his time in Turkey, Ozil has still to register a goal or assist and one may not come before the season ends. He is currently sidelined with an ankle ligament rupture.

Making his fourth start and seventh appearance for Fenerbahce since joining in the winter window, Mesut Özil was pushing to help his side find an equaliser when he went down awkwardly under a challenge from Antalyaspor forward Fredy.

According to the player himself at the time, he has an outer ligament tear in his ankle. Goal added that he specifically has partial tears to his inner and outer lateral ankle ligaments and will miss between four and six weeks of football. April 5th was the best-case return date but he has still not returned.

Ozil has, however, returned to training, tweeting on 9 April that he was ‘Glad to have my best friend back [a football] on my foot – and to be with my teammates in training again.’

Fenerbahce played on Monday against Gaziantep but Ozil was not included in the squad.
