Arsenal have been mentioned in the race for Eduardo Camavinga, but they’d need to secure European football to have any chance this summer.

The Athletic report that Eduardo Camavinga will not be signing a new contract at Rennes, with his current deal expiring in 2022, and it looks likely he’ll be sold this summer as a result. His agent is on record saying he believes his client is capable of playing in the Premier League next season.

The Athletic add that Arsenal have been mentioned in the mix for the player in recent weeks. However, their ability to push for that move is dependent on achieving European football. It looks unlikely they’ll be able to attract him to join without it.

Arsenal fans have spotted hints that Camavinga might have a soft spot for the Gunners in the past. The player has a poster commemorating Rennes’ Europa League clash with Arsenal on his wall, even though he didn’t feature in the tie.

For anyone who isn’t aware of Camavinga, there’s no doubt he’d be an excellent signing. The 18-year-old already has 64 Ligue 1 and eight European appearances under his belt, earning a guaranteed starting spot for Rennes.

The stats suggest he’s already above average in terms of his defensive duties and even more so when it comes to dribbling and linking up with teammates. He’d be a fantastic addition to Arsenal’s midfield.

But that all means there are plenty of other clubs after him. The competition will be fierce even if Arsenal win the Europa League, and the task looks almost impossible if they don’t.
