With Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe already doubts for this weekend’s Premier League fixture, David Luiz and Granit Xhaka joined Arsenal’s growing injury list on Friday.

Arsenal report that Luiz is experiencing discomfort in his right knee, for which he is being assessed. The severity of the problem is not yet known, but he won’t be available for the Liverpool match.

As for Xhaka, he was unwell on Friday morning and unavailable for training as a result. However, it seems there’s still a possibility he features in the match, depending on further assessment of his condition.

James Benge reports that Luiz has been for several tests on his knee this week, as well as seeing a specialist, but he’s still been taking part in training.

Saka and Smith Rowe are under assessment as well, but the good news is that Saka was in training on Friday. Willian has also returned from his calf injury to rejoin full training.

It looks like Arsenal will be turning to Rob Holding to start against Liverpool. Assuming Gabriel Magalhaes starts at left-centre-back, that also leaves Pablo Mari and Calum Chambers, but neither have featured much at all at right-centre-back this season.

In midfield, Mohamed Elneny or Dani Ceballos can fill in for Xhaka if he’s unavailable.
