William Saliba impressed once again at the weekend, earning praise for his performance for OGC Nice in a 1-1 draw with Lorient.

Arsenal loanee William Saliba continues to be a key member of the OGC Nice starting lineup, and that was exemplified once again with his display away to Lorient at the weekend.

Though the match finished in a disappointing draw, Saliba put in a starring individual performance. He made four clearances, two interceptions, two tackles, and blocked three shots, winning all of his ground duels.

The centre-back also completed 94% of his passes, including seven of nine long balls, and maintained his record of never being dribbled past with Nice.

The official Nice website credited the “impressive performance” from Saliba and goalkeeper Walter Benitez as the reason why Lorient’s attacking pressure didn’t lead to more goals.

Saliba’s efforts were perhaps particularly impressive as he didn’t have his usual centre-back partner Jean-Clair Todibo alongside him. The duo have formed a strong partnership since both joining on loan in January, but Todibo was unavailable through suspension at the weekend.

Mikel Arteta is surely tracking the defender’s positive progress on loan, and you’d have to imagine it will lead to opportunities in pre-season – at the very least.
