Thomas Partey’s injury is not serious and he could even make it back in time for the match against Leeds United on Sunday, according to a report.

Football.London report that Thomas Partey felt some pain in his thigh before signalling to come off against Aston Villa on Saturday. However, they add that looks like the problem was nothing serious and he could be back for the next Premier League game.

Partey has had a lot of problems with injuries so far at Arsenal. Only a few games after his initial spell in the team, he missed a month with a thigh problem he picked up against Aston Villa.

He returned for the North London derby but only lasted 45 minutes before getting injured again. Since his recovery from that problem, he’s had a couple of minor knocks forcing him out of games early.

Fortunately, it doesn’t look like this injury is anything more than that, despite Mikel Arteta’s initial comments that it was a “muscular injury” and that they didn’t know how bad it was.

Having Partey back for Leeds would obviously be a boost, but I think Arsenal need to consider the situation carefully. If there’s any risk of reinjury by rushing him back for that game, it’s just not worth it with Benfica the following Thursday.

I’m not even slightly suggesting that the Leeds game is an easy win, it’s just clearly the less important of the two matches for Arsenal right now. Dani Ceballos is back and capable of filling in for a game.
