There is interest in Tiago Tomas from England, but Sporting CP aren’t keen to sell, according to reports from Portugal.

Reports this week suggest Arsenal have an interest in Sporting CP 18-year-old forward Tiago Tomas. In fact, the rumours went as far as to suggest the club were close to finalising a summer transfer for the player, with Sporting willing to accept £20m for a sale.

The Portuguese media are putting the brakes on this story, however. A Bola (via Sport Witness) claim that whilst there is interest in Tomas from England, no club has made an offer for him just yet.

A Bola add that Sporting aren’t interested in selling anyway. They only signed the player up to a new contract last summer, and they aren’t thinking about letting him go just yet.

As we know from the previous reports, Tomas has a release clause of €60m (£52.5m). If Sporting are asking Arsenal to pay that kind of fee for a relatively unproven teenager, you’d think the chances of the deal would drop to almost zero.

Tomas has five goals and three assists in 25 appearances this season. In terms of minutes, he’s averaging slightly more than a goal or assist every two games.
