Arsenal are reportedly in talks over a new contract with Miguel Azeez, but the claims contradict previous reports on the player.

The S*n claim Arsenal are in talks with Miguel Azeez over a new long-term contract. This is hardly surprising, after the youth midfielder’s continued progress with the club. However, the same outlet adds that Azeez’s contract expires this summer.

That directly contradicts what we heard when Azeez signed his last deal in 2019. Reports at the time suggested it was a three-year contract (to 2022) with a two-year option to extend (to 2024).

Whether Arsenal and Azeez choose to activate the option or not, that would still leave him under contract for over a year yet.

Given the source of the new claims, I’d be tempted to disregard them. When we reached out to All Nigeria Soccer – the original source of the Azeez contract news in 2019 – they stressed again that the player has a deal to 2022 with a two-year option.

The original ANS report on Azeez’s contract was posted five weeks before Arsenal’s official confirmation, and correctly reported that the announcement would come soon after the player’s birthday. They’ve given us little reason to distrust them on this one.

The positive is that either The S*n are wrong and Azeez has a deal to 2022 already, or they’re right and Arsenal are working on a new one. Or he has a deal to 2022 and they’re working on a new one anyway!

Either way, we hopefully shouldn’t see the talented 18-year-old on the way out in the summer.

Azeez made his first-team debut in December, but he’s currently absent through injury.
