Stoke City tried to sign Eddie Nketiah last January, and they’re on the lookout for a striker again this month after Tyrese Campbell’s injury.

StokeOnTrentLive report that Stoke City are on the lookout for another forward in the January transfer window, after Tyrese Campbell suffered a knee injury in early December likely to keep him out for a lengthy spell.

It was a big blow to the Championship club, as Campbell had seven goals and seven assists in 18 games this season.

Stoke City boss Michael O’Neill admits they were looking at Eddie Nketiah and Rhian Brewster last January, before Campbell fully broke into the starting lineup in the first place.

“When it comes to those really top end and possibly younger players that you feel can make a difference, I would imagine we’re trying to look at those players the same way everyone is,” O’Neill began.

“That’s the experience I had last January…We looked at players like Rhian Brewster and we had looked at players like Eddie Nketiah.

“Those were the players that everyone wanted. But obviously, we had the solution in Tyrese, and as I say that’s the challenge of the transfer window.”

Brewster has since left Liverpool on a permanent deal to join Sheffield United, so he’s fairly unlikely to be on the market this winter. However, Nketiah’s situation is a little more volatile at the moment.

In mid-December, the Arsenal 21-year-old made consecutive Premier League starts, but he didn’t even make an appearance in the final three games of the year. The return of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Gabriel Martinelli is really limiting his chances.

Whether that changes in the coming games is hard to say, but if it doesn’t, then it starts to look like a loan move might make sense in January.
