Olympiacos are among the clubs with an interest in Sokratis Papastathopoulos this window, but the player hasn’t made a decision on his future yet.

Chris Wheatley of Football.London reports that Olympiacos are keen on signing Sokratis in the January transfer window, as long-term admirers of the centre-back. The 32-year-old is still assessing his options, with a number of other clubs making enquiries.

Sokratis is open to leaving, after possible moves to Napoli and another unnamed major European team fell through on summer transfer deadline day. But he hasn’t chosen his next club just yet.

Previous reports from Turkey suggested Fenerbahce were in the race for the defender, even reaching a preliminary agreement with him. But, like all the other outlets, they suggested he was holding off on a final decision at this stage.

From Arsenal’s point of view, they’re happy to terminate Sokratis’ contract early and get his wages off the books. They need the extra squad space and are happy for him to go and play.

Sokratis has been playing with the Arsenal youth teams over the last month or so, making a couple of appearances to keep himself sharp for a January move.
