Konstantinos Mavropanos made his first start since December 15th against Mainz on Friday night. The defender had spent a few games on the bench in January, but made a positive impression in his 45-minute substitute appearance last Saturday.

As a result, he got a start this time, and certainly made the most of it. The centre-back made six clearances, six interceptions and four tackles without being dribbled past as his team kept a clean sheet to win 2-0.

As usual, Mavropanos also won the vast majority of his individual duels, including four of five on the ground and seven of 10 in the air.

The on-loan Arsenal defender did come off with a knock, but before you panic, Sven Mislintat told the media afterwards that it was nothing an ice pack couldn’t fix.

Overall, it’s the kind of performance he needed to get himself back in the starting lineup. Mavropanos has had to deal with a torn meniscus already this season, but he’s up to eight appearances in the Bundesliga and there should be more to come.
